Nice cups, though I don't like flat bottoms for espresso.These are too small to be Cappuccino cups, they are inexpensive, ok, espresso cups, but Cappuccino cups they will never be... they barely hold 4oz of liquid, more like 3...a double shot of espresso overfills, so does a standard cappuccino pull.

Nespresso E350 Romeo Single-Serve Automatic Espresso Machine, Polished Aluminum Review

Nespresso E350 Romeo Single-Serve Automatic Espresso Machine, Polished Aluminum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My impression of these 2 machines.
We bought the Romeo first than returned it 6 months later due to too many electrical problems (even after Nespresso repair) and replaced it with the D290.
Romeo pros: Beautiful modern design
Great coffee
cons: Useless cup warmer
Useless self cleaning mode (very annoying)
Mediocre frothing device
Too many electronics that could (does) go wrong
Too expensive to justify all the electronic
Automatic capsul ejection

D290pros: Great coffee
Ease of use
Capsule is ejected automatically when user wants to
Less electronic that could go wrong
cons: Spout might be a little low for larger cups
Frothing device
A little noisier than the Romeo

Bottom line: If you can forgo the great looks of the Romeo get the D290.
Frother at both machines is not very good. Use a Bodum hand frother that works faster cleaner and creates great froth.
Coffee is great with both machines.

Enjoy

Nespresso 3192US Aeroccino Plus Review

Nespresso 3192US Aeroccino Plus
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really love it! You fill cold milk into it, push the button and after about a minute you get warm and very stiff cappucino-milk foam.

The newer Aeroccino Plus is an improved version of the older Aeroccino (no plus). It works great and - honestly - there is no reason to buy the old Aeroccino anymore (i own both)!

The Plus is larger, the milk doesn't burn to the floor of the kettle anymore, it can now be submerged into water (but no dishwasher!) and it can also do cold milk foam which looks great and stiff (hold the switch for about 2 seconds - the light turns blue instead of red).

Finally cleaning is really easy and can be done with water, sometimes a little soap and with the hands - there is no burned milk anymore (as with the old version). They also improved the coating so nothing sticks anymore.

If you love cappucinos or cafe-lattes, get one!

Just got this with the excellent Nespresso maker and frother and this is the only item I'm a little disappointed in. First, I thought the pods came with it (okay, that was dumb). But second, the only option to mount is to use the sticky gum on the back of the flat panel?Really, I hate using that stuff, what if I move next month, I have to buy a new one?And $30 for a simple metal holder is a little over the top. If you are buying a Nespresso and you have the option for this item, I would think twice. In truth, I may come to love this thing once I'm swimming in over-priced, proprietary wasteful pods, but we will see.

Nescafe Dolce Gusto Single Serve Coffee Machines Review

Nescafe Dolce Gusto Single Serve Coffee Machines
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I want to love this machine. If you are considering purchasing the Dolce Gusto machine I STRONGLY suggest you sample the coffee first (I think Sur La Table has demo machines). Here's what I like about the machine:
* The design is sleek.
* It's well made and sturdy.
* The machine heats the water up really fast- once you turn it you're ready to make coffee in well under a minute.
* The machine is incredibly easy to use. (see attached video for a demo of a cappuccino)
* No real cleanup required after each use.

Now for the bad...
* The machine comes with a latte macchiato glass, a cappuccino cup and saucer. Unfortunately the packaging was very poor (not enough bubble wrap) and the saucer arrived cracked.
* The coffee is horrible. As good as the physical machine is... it is only as good as the coffee it makes. All the milk based Dolce Gusto drinks are excessively sweet, taste artificial and have a ton of sugar and have anywhere from 3.5g-6g of fat.
*The non-milk drinks are very disappointing as well. Both the espresso and lungo aren't very strong and taste very average.

I have posted video demonstrations for each of the drinks in my reviews of :
* Cappuccino
* Espresso
* Chococino
* Caffe Lungo
* Latte Macchiato

My girlfriend decided to splurge on this product (and to try to save on her $5/day espresso habit).It's as beautiful as advertised, and simple to set up.Espressos and Lungos are mighty tasty.

Unfortunately the entire Latissima series is suffering from a flaw with the milk-foam system.The first day or two foam comes out, but not nearly as much or as nice as in the Nespresso store.Then after the third day the milk quantity goes down significantly and the spout begins to just sputter out milk.

My girlfriend and I went back to the Nespresso store twice to inquire what we were doing wrong; the store people unfortunately couldn't help us out.We also called the Nespresso-Club hotline, who was willing to send us a new machine.

It turns out that there are a lot of users out there experiencing the same flaw.Go to Youtube and type in Nespresso Latissima; many users have posted videos evidencing the same exact problem as what we were having with our machine.This problem has been there since the introduction of the machine in 2007.

We have decided to return the machine and purchase a lower-priced, but at least reliable machine.It is shameless on the part of Nespresso (and DeLonghi) to continue marketing this machine although there is a design flaw with the milk-housing unit.It also does not surprise me that the price has gone down almost 25%; Nespresso's trying to liquidate its inventory before more problems arise and it's sitting on this junk.Be forewarned, Nespresso's return policy is only 14 days from the date of purchase; I would therefore recommend purchasing from Bloomingdale's or Williams Sonoma, whose return policies are much more favorable to the consumer.

We just got this machine over the holidays and have been more than impressed. In fact, we're down-right addicted to it.It truly is very easy to use and makes great espressos, lattes and cappuccinos (kudos to Nespresso for excellent pod quality). Has completely replaced Starbucks for us, which has resulted in big savings and convenience.Also perfect for dinner parties, where we can make drink after drink after drink with practically no effort.

The only issues I've found is that it does drip a little after making drinks, which leads to some clean-up, but pretty minor. And, those pod costs do add up, but that's the case with any machine and still a fraction of what you would pay at Starbucks.

Others have complained about the temperature of the drinks, and it is a little cooler than I would like for the first drink.However, I found that running the "clean" mode on the milk container before making the drinks helps heat up the tubes and makes for hotter initial drink. Also, quickly preheating the cup with hot water helps.All this takes about 12 seconds.Once you're past the first, it's fine.

One hint on the milk, we've found that using 2% "pasteurized" instead of "ultra-pasteurized" gives a better, thicker foam.

Only reason why four stars instead of five is the initial machine cost and ongoing pod cost.

Nespresso D90 Essenza Single-Serve Manual Espresso Machine Review

Nespresso D90 Essenza Single-Serve Manual Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review is based on my experience with the Nespresso Essenza C90, but the Nespresso Essenza D90 is quite similar, and I believe that the espresso making mechanism is exactly the same.

We all have our little passions. Over the years, I have devoted too much time, money, and study to perfecting the art of making the perfect coffee and espresso. I searched the world (and the internet) for the best beans, grinders, equipment, and even tried roasting my own beans and became able to produce better potions that one can ever find in the coffee boutiques. Still, as it turns out, my efforts were in vain. The Nespresso Essenza (and probably the other Nespresso machines similar in design) produces the perfect cup and the ease of doing so, sadly, puts my efforts to shame.

The secret seems to be in the strong pumping mechanism (19 bars of pressure, same as their more expensive machines) and their superb coffee capsules. After being such a stickler for the freshest roasted estate grown beans, I balked at the use of capsules and considered it the coffee for dummies approach. I also thought that they might be kind of similar in quality to the coffee "pods" used in the new single serve coffee machines, which range from bad (for the manufacturer and supermarket brands) to only fairly good (for the best of the gourmet, limited-edition pods at over $1 each).

Against all odds, the Nespresso pods are pure magic. I ordered new pods right away, but even the sampler pods that came with the machine were incredible, despite being past their "best before" expiration date. I'm equally mystified as to how they can have about twelve varieties and almost all be exquisite, despite noticeable differences not only in strength but in flavor. The "lungo"capsules are also fantastic (these produce 4 ounces of coffee-espresso instead of the classic 1 to 2 ounce espresso). Being partial to espresso and very dark coffee, I wasn't so impressed with the two or three pods weakest in strength, but those who like traditional American coffee might prefer them.

The Nespresso capsules completely dispelled my concern that they would be limiting compared to the use of coffee beans. It turns out that the opposite is true. Sure, there may be hundreds of different beans available, with infinite possibilities of blends and roasts, but they rarely reach the superior flavor these capsules achieve. Moreover, ordering coffee beans limits you to only one or two roasts for awhile, unless you buy a variety of green coffee beans (which last much longer than roasted beans) and roast them yourself in small quantities. With the capsules, a nice variety of espresso variations are available instantly.

Having been in the habit of ordering expensive coffee beans, I find the cost of the Nespresso capsules at $.50 each and the two-day shipping charge of only $5.95 (for any quantity) very reasonable. When buying roasted coffee beans, the shipping cost for one or two day air was much higher, and I had to reorder them every few weeks to keep fresh ones on hand. Since the Nespresso capsules stay fresh much longer, I can order a several month supply at one time.

The only criticism of the machine is that the espresso might not be quite hot enough for some aficionados. However, it is just hot enough for me, and the temperature can be raised slightly by heating the cup first.

It is amazing that I can now enjoy the best espresso almost instantly. This is truly the perfect way to enjoy espresso, even if I can no longer take credit for concocting it.

I loved this machine from the first time I saw and tried it.However, I started having problems on day 2 - the milk wouldn't froth and it came out in spurts with a lot of water, not even filling 1/8 of the glass with milk.I took it back to Williams Sonoma and they cheerfully replaced it.It happened again to this new machine and, once again, I took it back for a replacement.(I had been in touch with Nespresso at all the junctures along the way and they replaced the milk jug and top twice.)When it happened on the third machine, I called the local Williams-Sonoma and asked if there was someone who could check out my machine.I am in the Danbury, CT area and Bill, at the local Williams-Sonoma, told me to leave it with him while I shopped and he would check it out.When I returned he told me it was frothing perfectly and then showed me how he set it up.It seems that I had not been pushing the jug connection tight enough.It has to click in.The lights had always been on and so I believed that the jug was connected correctly, but I was wrong. Not until I saw it being done and felt the connection, did I understand what I was doing wrong.Without being tightly connected it doesn't work correctly.Now I push until I hear a click and/or push it in a second time holding the back of the machine as I push, and have been making perfect lattes.I recommend this machine highly but think the documentation should be rewritten with this little bit of information in bold letters. I have seen many reviews of this machine from people who have had the same problem and hope that they found the solution as this machine is wonderful.

Nespresso C100 Espresso Machine, Essenza Single Serve

After a few days of use here are my comments for the C100T and Aerocinno. I am using the combo in a small office setting. The no mess of the espresso machine is great. The shots are really good and consistently good. The machine is very simple to use. Fill w/ water, turn on drop in espresso capsule, push button, and you are done. The only drawback I can mentinon is the capsules must be ordered from nespresso directly. In terms of cost they are significanlty more expensive than premium whole bean or ground espresso roast coffe (lavazza, petes, starbucks, etc.). So with regards to the espresso machine it is perfect for my office due to the no mess and no fuss cup of esspresso. Honestly, I love it. But in my home I will be keeping my Starbucks barista espresso machine due to the fact that it will take any espresso and at home it is easy to clean. The aerocinno is ingenious. It is the perfect compliment for any espresso machine with one caveat, the servings that it can make are only for one so if you are preparing multiple beverages are large single servings it must filled multiple times. If you overfill it, it will make a mess spilling over the sides. I am considering getting one of these for the home too due to the ease of use in comparison to the steamer attached to my espresso machine. In conclusion, I do reccomend this combo highly with the points mentioned above in mind.

The Nespresso system is about as simple as coffee making gets - you turn on the device until it heats up (about 30 seconds), put the pod into the holder, press GO and in 20 seconds or so you have the perfect espresso shot. There are variety of pod blends available, and the machine is capable of producing a shot so smooth it would rival any professional coffee house.

My own real criticism is the price - this machine is expensive for something that essential boils and pumps water. But it is elegantly designed and has a small footprint and is guaranteed to become a conversation piece in your home or workplace. The second problem is that the pods themselves are expensive and can only be ordered directly from Nespresso. It's easy to create a $100-a-month coffee habit that's hard to justify in this economy, so I went back to my Mr Coffee maker after 3 months of Nespresso addiction.

But if you're in the market for pod-based espresso, I'd recommend this machine.

If you are committed to drinking a lot of espressos, lattes, cappucino's, etc ...* and not just a cup of 'joe,' there are only two choices for you to choose from, this and the Keurig Platinum B70. Both make excellent coffee, are easy to use and make cleanup easy. So it really comes down to design looks.

*Note that to make real froth, you need the Nespresso Aericcino frothing machine which is really just an agitating/warming/heating cup like device - Amazon does not seem to sell, it's around $90 but it makes a huge difference versus the slightly non-diary power cream taste you usually get from "fake" pods of cappucino/latte. Of course, it's a separate device that you can use with the Keurig also so you can decide.

Besides the looks, the only difference is that the Keurig sells about 100 different pods of tea, coffee and hot chocolate and available in lots of places while the Nespresso pods are only available online and your choices are limited to about 12 (or whatever they might add or subtract in the future). Though since Nespresso only sells 12, they tried to make sure there is a difference in each of their choices so while you do get "more" choices that work on the Keurig, that does not necessarily mean you're getting a slew of differences ... each Nespresso pod is $.49 each with a minimum order of 50. Keurig pods range in price from $.30 to $.70 but Nespresso's design sensibilities extends to the pods themselves - the "Welcome Pack" is especially cool looking, a minimalistic black box out of MoMa with multi-colored chrome dots - each a pod "window" showcasing the 250 pods that then slide out onto trays like truffles. If you have a lot of company/friends over and want to show off striking good looks even from your instant coffee pod, then you have to choose the Nespresso ... sure, that might be getting carried away a bit but great classy clean design can make a difference - just like you could probably wouldn't pull out some grape jelly jars to drink coffee :-)

Anyway, ultimately, that's what it comes down to - the Nespresso unit and its pods are something you'd proudly display on your kitchen counter as it's really a mini Italian roaster, grinder and coffee machine - even down to its cup warmer and its chrome-like pods.

The Keurig coffee itself can be just as good. The unit itself and the pods however are normal, functional, everyday looking design - nothing wrong with that but if you're choosing design and aesthics, unlike a lot of choices where you trade off striking looks for ease of use, you're not giving up anything with choosing the Nespresso.

BTW, the Nespresso LeCube is also available in red, chrome and a new black. I'm not sure if Amazon carries all the colors. At their website, you can go all out and go Nespresso crazy - from sugar sticks to cups to if you're a true believer ... the 'wall capsule dispenser in ebony-tinted oak.' I KID YOU NOT :-)

Product Description:
In a pure minimalist design with a square, cubed architectural shape, this compact espresso machine features a unique extraction system specially designed for coffee-filled capsules. A simple system perforates the hermetically sealed capsule and soaks all the ground coffee to optimally filter the coffee, while the unit's high-pressure 19-bar pump extracts all the aromas and gives body to the espresso ensuring a smooth crema--the delicious creamy layer on top. In addition, the machine's ThermoBlock heating system heats water to ideal temperatures during extraction and empties the remaining water after each use so that the water is fresh for each preparation.
For added convenience, the brewing unit provides programmable extraction for small and long cups with automatic stop, as well as backlit "on/off," "espresso," and "lungo" buttons. Other highlights include cup-storage side trays for six espresso cups, a removable 34-ounce water container, and vertical positioning of the drip grid for latte macchiato preparation. Used capsules eject into a capsule container that holds 15 used capsules and has a back light to indicate when the container is full. The espresso machine only uses capsules, not any other ground espresso, but a range of 12 premium coffee blends is available, including decaffeinated. The capsules can be purchased from Nespresso, either by phone or at their Web site, and an assortment of 12 capsules comes included. Housed in high-quality ABS, the 1260-watt espresso machine measures 9 by 8-8/9 by 9 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Nespresso D290 Concept Espresso and Coffeemaker Review

I've had 3 of the Nespresso 150 coffee machines for about 5 years divided between my offices and home, which have worked splendidly. Finally the gaskets are starting to harden, and water is starting to leak, and one or two could use cleaning. The 150s are fine and I'll still use one at home, but I just got a fire-truck red D290 for the office.However, after using the 290 for a couple of weeks, I may have to get another for home.

Aside from the shock of paying so much for a coffee machine, I couldn't be more pleased.I rationalize that with three shots of espresso per day, after two years at work (~600 cups), the pod and maker together are just $1 a shot.Similar logic "paid off" for my old 150s, and saved oodles of time in line at coffee shops.

The espresso is very good (at fifty cents per capsule), the capsule delivery is easy and quick ordering from the web page, and the brewing is easy even before I've had my morning caffeine. Plus it looks cool and the lever and buttons all have a solid feel.

My advice - order the special coffees, which show up about twice a year, they taste the best. The spiced flavors are a bit of an acquired taste.Some of the blends are 95% arabica + 5% robusta beans, others are 100% arabica.Look into it if you're a purist who disdains even traces of robusta.

Read the manual, it just takes ten minutes.Put it where it can be admired, and lock it down, and prepare to be asked for an espresso by your friends often.

[7/8/08 - 500 cups of coffee, no problems.]
[9/1/10 - another 1000 or so.No problems yet, still working like a charm.]

Nespresso CitiZ Automatic Espresso Maker and Milk Frother Review

Nespresso CitiZ Automatic Espresso Maker and Milk Frother

With all the new style espresso machines on the market (Tassimo, Keurig, Flavia, etc.)I was convinced that Nespresso was more of the same: a set of stylish gimmicks designed to convince you that this "espresso" (though not real at all) was "the real thing." It never is.

Which is why the Nespresso is so great.It IS the REAL THING. The capsules contain nothing more than espresso coffee grounds. The machine is simply an automated and miniaturized "real" espresso rig.And the results speak for themselves:

-- full bodied crema like you get from the best barista
-- speedy and HOT cups of espresso
-- the espresso produced is crisp and clear, full bodied, and smooth
-- my Sicilian wife and all her relatives (numerous, and mostly named "Maria" "Antonina" and "Dominic") all fully approve of the espresso that comes out.Comparing is to "Nonna's" would be sacrilege, but although those words have not been spoken yet, I am conviced the thought has crossed a couple minds.:-)
-- all this in under 30 seconds and within a square foot of counter space.

The frothing unit that comes with the machine is nothing short of black magic.I have NO IDEA what it does or how it does it, but the results will amaze you.And the best part is it's easy to clean: no sticky milk mess left behind to make you wonder who's gonna get sick first.

Coffee for this machine is 55 cents per cup, and Nespresso delivers online orders with astonishing speed (which is good, because you can't get the coffee from anyone else!). A bit pricey, but in this case you DO get what you pay for... and then some.

Best of all, it comes with an integrated Aeroccino for creating an endless variety of milk-based coffee drinks at the touch of a button. To begin, fill the Aeroccino with the desired amount of milk and press the "start" button, open the lever, insert a capsule and close the lever, fill a glass with the hot milk froth and place the glass under the coffee outlet, then press the Espresso or Lungo button--voila: creamy, delicious coffee drinks. The flow of coffee depends on the coffee variety selected, and up to 11 used capsules collect in the capsule container for later disposal. Other thoughtful design details include automatic and programmable volume control, an energy-saving mode, a 1-liter removable water tank, a removable drip tray, and folding cup support (one position for a cup and one position for a macchiato glass).
